I’m Dr. Wendianne Wilson, though most of my patients simply call me “Doctor Wendi.” I grew up in the greater Chicagoland and northern Indiana area and earned my Doctorate of Optometry from Indiana University School of Optometry before moving to Des Moines in 1992.
My passion for biology in high school and college inspired me to pursue a career in the medical field. I was drawn to optometry partly because I started wearing glasses and contact lenses in fifth grade, and I love helping people see clearly at every stage of life.
I enjoy the challenge of finding the best vision solutions—whether it’s a complex contact lens fitting or specialized eyewear for specific careers. Diagnosing and treating eye diseases and injuries is something I find deeply rewarding. To support this, I’ve incorporated innovative technology into my practice to thoroughly assess and protect your eye health.
Family means everything to me. I have 2 grown daughters, Gabi and Abbie, who brighten my world. In January 2019, I was blessed to welcome four more “lights” into my life—my husband Jeff’s adult children, Catherine, Christopher, Jeremy, and Jonathan. Jeff and I share a love for cooking and hiking, and we’re both active in our church and the Northwest Des Moines Rotary Club. Volunteering and engaging with the community are important parts of my life.
I look forward to getting to know you and your family. I believe the best eye care comes from building a personal connection, listening carefully to your concerns, and conducting thorough exams so I fully understand your unique needs.
